Sue is Head of Policy and Stakeholders for the Institute of Licensing (IoL). The IoL is the professional body for licensing practitioners across the UK, with industry, regulators and private practice all welcome within the membership, and Sue joined the IoL as a member in 1996, taking on the role of Company Secretary initially in 2003 alongside her local authority role. She was employed as Executive Officer with the IoL in 2007, transitioning to her current position in 2025.
Sue is an experienced local authority licensing practitioner with 18 years working in local authority licensing in Restormel Borough Council (now part of Cornwall Council), where she chaired the Cornwall Licensing Officer Group (CLOG) while serving as Licensing Manager at the council. Her early years work experience centred on hospitality, working as a waitress in Mevagissey (Cornwall) where she grew up.
