History

The concept of an association set up specifically to cater for organisations involved with crowd management and crowd control operations came about as a result of an informal meeting between leading private security companies in this field in 2000.

The United Kingdom Crowd Management Association (UKCMA) was subsequently formed and officially launched at the prestigious International Live Music Conference in March 2001.

Since its formation the UKCMA has gained recognition from The British Standards Institute (BSI), the Security Industry Authority (SIA), the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS), and the government working party set up to licence the private security industry, where our members have worked to assist with establishing operational standards for security companies working on leisure activity events and training systems. Members have also advised UK government bodies set up to publish standards of guidance for events.
